Programs and Community Services

Riverwood is a place for quiet walks, for bird watching and for enjoying nature and gardens. The Riverwood Conservancy offers a number of programs to help you make the most of your visit. Why not join us?

Education Programs

Children's education programs include Education Naturally, our successful science curriculum-based outdoor education program available to all elementary schools in the area. We also offer Hot Chocolate & Wild Birds, a special winter half-day program for grades JK to 6.  For more casual and fun learning, we offer March Break Camp Riverwood. In the summer, we partner with ErinoakKids to offer Camp Riverwood to children with disabilities.MGCfiles/Images-general/Images2010/10000-student-2010-0026.JPG

In April, 2009, The Riverwood Conservancy was awarded a four-year grant by The Ontario Trillium Foundation to establish an outdoor field science program for secondary school students, Exploration Naturally. This program will provide experiential field science opportunities for students, including special needs students, as well as a means for inquiry and learning about the environment and the importance of its stewardship. Check out the Exploration Naturally page for more information about this exciting new program! NEW! The Riverwood Conservancy (TRC) and Visual Arts Mississauga (VAM) are now collaborating to present a joint school program combining art and science, called Art Naturally!

Discovery@Riverwood makes available a wide variety of adult and family-oriented programs.  Why not join us for a quiet naturalist-led walk to explore the natural world at Riverwood? Perhaps a hands-on gardening seminar appeals to you. Programs are offered on week-ends and during the week.

Stewardship and Gardening Programs

Stewardship programs offer the public and community groups a chance to get their hands dirty as they work to improve the environment. Some ongoing stewardship activies include controlling invasive species at Riverwood, bird feeding, tree planting, trail enhancement, and monitoring frogs, toads and turtles; new opportunities are constantly being added.

Gardening is another focus of The Riverwood Conservancy. Come and see our new MacEwan Terrace Garden. We offer programs for volunteer gardeners, scouts, and schools (as part of Education Naturally).
